Have you ever wanted to write something, but you don’t know what to write? That’s quite common among writers.
There are certain ways you can use to get a fresh set of ideas. However, that’s not in the scope of our discussion here.
What I want to talk about now is, how to prevent them from happening in the first place. If you do the steps below, then you’ll save a lot of time in the long run.
1. Plan it
This is by far the most effective one, at least according to myself.
Why did I say it’s effective? Because when you pre-planned your writing, you won’t even have to look for ideas. You already know what to write for.
And for the next 30 days, you can just follow the plan without having to look for ideas.
Plan what you want to write in the next 30 days, use a spreadsheet, notebooks, or whatever tools you’re comfortable with.
You may ask “But you have to get ideas to plan your writing” Right, that’s where tactic 2 comes in
2. Write Down Your Ideas
Maybe this is one of the most common tips you heard everywhere. it’s classic. I admit it. However, this one is everywhere because they’re that powerful.
Ideas come and leave as they are. Sometimes they come when we wake up in the morning. Sometimes, they come when we want to sleep. Sometimes, in between 2 of them.
We can’t rely on our memories. Once they’re in, they may leave at any time. That’s why you should write them down!
By capturing your ideas, you make them permanent. You keep them in your pocket. (Provided you store them in a safe place).
3. Keep Learning
Most of the time, ideas come from what we give to our brains. The more we fill our brain with valuable knowledge, the more ideas come to our mind.
Read insightful articles on the internet, listen to podcasts, follow great Instagram content creators, socialize with friends, join communities; just do anything you can to feed your brain.
The point is, don’t stop learning.
Wait, isn’t this technique used to get ideas? Yes, it’s mainly used to get ideas. However, if you do this regularly, you will have more ideas jump in and out more frequently.
Not having ideas is normal. We’re human, not robots that can swallow Wikipedia in minutes. Even if you do all 3 steps above, It won’t guarantee you 100% that you will never run out of ideas.
No, there’s no such thing as a perfect solution like that.
However, if you do these steps, you will GREATLY improve your mind to find ideas next time. The same way safety belts don’t guarantee your safety, but it will GREATLY improve your chance to survive.
Now you’ve read this till the end. I hope you gain something insightful from this. And of course, I hope you won’t stumble to find ideas next time again.
